Why Iceland?

Where awe meets adventure

Geologically, Iceland is a young island born from volcanic activity. A giant plume of magma deep within the Earth's mantle caused a series of underwater eruptions that built up the landmass we know today. This fiery creation process is still ongoing, as evidenced by Iceland's frequent volcanic eruptions and geothermal features. Vikings are credited with being the first permanent residents, arriving around the late 9th century AD. While there's some debate, historical records suggest a Norwegian chieftain named Ingólfur Arnarson established himself in Iceland in 874, marking the beginning of the Viking Age settlement.

Golden Circle

Iceland's Golden Circle packs a punch with three geological wonders. Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO site and rift valley where the continents drift apart, lets you walk between tectonic plates. Gullfoss, the "Golden Falls", stuns with its power as it cascades into a canyon. Finally, witness the geothermal activity of the Geysir area, birthplace of the word "geyser" itself. For the truly adventurous, add snorkeling in Silfra fissure's crystal-clear waters, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to dive between continents.

A stunning and otherworldly sight, Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is filled with icebergs that have calved off the mighty Vatnajökull glacier. These glistening icebergs drift across the glacial lagoon, creating a mesmerizing scene. Black sand beaches border the lagoon, adding a stark contrast to the icy beauty. Boat tours on the lagoon offer a closer look at the icebergs and the chance to see seals basking on the ice chunks.
